Don’t Compare Yourself

One day way back in the 1970’s while driving around town I saw the boyfriend of my youngest sister driving his late model Jeep Wrangler. I was driving my old junker.

We had both recently returned home from serving in the military. I lacked confidence having returned home a failure. He had returned home the picture of confidence and success. When I compared myself to him I felt even more like a failure.

That is until one day my youngest sister shared with me some very sad and tragic news. She told me that her seemingly confident and successful boyfriend had killed himself.

Are you envious or even jealous of someone? Don’t be. No one has it all together. Some are just better actors.

All that God is asking of you and of me is that we do our best to live a life that is pleasing to the Lord.

“Let everyone be sure that he is doing his very best, for then he will have the personal satisfaction of work well done and won’t need to compare himself with someone else.” Galatians 6:4
